How does God help us to grow in grace and love?

After learning about God’s grace last week, we can, hopefully, understand and apply God’s grace in our lives in order to grow. He wants us to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Like a vine (or any plant) growing, without a solid root and good light it will eventually die. We too, without a solid root in Christ and without God’s Word, we will eventually shrivel up spiritually.

“You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, take care that you are not carried away with the error of lawless people and lose your own stability. But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.” (2 Peter 3:17-18)

We know that growth results in changing. Spiritual growth means changing into mature, graceful Christians. Throughout our Christian life time, we should be constantly changing, and focusing on what we need to do in order to prepare for God’s Kingdom. For this to happen, we need to allow God’s Word to “dwell in us” (Colossians 3:16) to reflect the grace and love of our Lord Jesus Christ. Showing that we love God by loving each other shows that God’s Word is in our hearts and mouths (Romans 10:8). So, let’s allow God to work through us by the grace and love He has shown to us.

“By the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me.” (1 Corinthians 15:10)

God helps us to change, not only through His Word but also by placing challenging situations into our lives, to test us and train us. We can hopefully learn from these situations in order to grow and change into graceful people for God.

“May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.” (2 Corinthians 13:14)
